Meet The Makers: Dennis from Jaya Organics

Jaya Organics Meet The Makers

Name: Dennis Reinhard Mongdong

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Cambodia: Originally from Indonesia, and I have been living in Cambodia for the past 2 years.

Tell us about your favourite place in Siem Reap: I’d have to say the beautiful Lotus Farm. You can relax in one of the little huts there while watching the birds flocking by.

When did you launch Jaya Organics: In July 2019.

What’s the story or inspiration behind your brand: It all started when the guests at Jaya House River Park asked if they could purchase the bathroom amenities or the body scrubs that were used in the spa. At that time, we gave them the products in empty condiment jars, however, this happened so many times that the hotel’s kitchen quickly ran out of empty jars. We then realized that our guests deserve to bring home these Cambodian products in a better way – in a way that represents Cambodia, its natural goodness, and of course, the people.

Where does the name Jaya Organics come from: It is part of the big brand of Jaya House, so we kept the name Jaya and add Organics to highlight the natural ingredients that make up all of our products.

Out of all your products, which one is your favourite and why: This is not just one, but I have to say the Oil Burners. I put it in the diffuser when I’m at home, depending on the mood that I’m in. When I want to relax I use the Kraob Oil Burner Blend which in Khmer translates to sweet and warm smell; or when I want to concentrate and work I use the Lemongrass Oil Burner Blend.

What’s the plan for the next year for Jaya Organics: We were going to open the shop this year, but because of the pandemic it had to be postponed. We are hoping to be able to do it next year.

Name one thing you cannot find in Cambodia and that you miss: Because I’m from Indonesia, it is Indonesian food.

If you could have any product from the SATU collection (other than your own), what would it be: The Rotika basket - to keep all my snacks at home!

What was the last gift you gave someone: I gave a friend a new pair of shoes.

After answering these questions, you walk outside and find $1,000 on your doorstep. what would you spend it on: I’d spend it to travel domestically - explore places in Cambodia that I haven’t been before.

About Jaya Organics

Jaya Organics products are carefully formulated and lovingly handmade in small batches in Siem Reap. Focusing on natural beauty and a love for the environment, Jaya Organics produces products that are sulfate-free, paraben-free and cruelty-free. Starting from the interest and demand of hotel guests at Jaya House River Park, with many guests asking if they could purchase the bathroom amenities that were in their rooms, the idea of Jaya Organics quickly started to form. To meet the demand, the hotel started giving guests small souvenirs of the amenities in empty condiment jars, however this happened so many times that the hotel’s kitchen quickly ran out of empty jars. It was at this moment that the full idea was realised and the concept of Jaya Organics was born. Dennis Reinhard, the creator of Jaya Organics, has developed the range of products with an experienced French formulator who has been living in Siem Reap for more than 6 years. Together, they have formulated Jaya Organics products with the help of 10 Cambodian employees, creating local jobs, education, and introducing more high-quality local Cambodian products into the community. Dennis, who himself has sensitive and problematic skin, understands the need for gentle, nurturing skincare and is passionate about the quality of Jaya Organics.
