Our Story
Who are we?
Satu was founded in 2020 by Evi-Elli La Valle and Geoff Greenwood. Originally from London via a few years in Melbourne, we've lived in Siem Reap for five years. Evi-Elli's background is in travel and she runs Taste Siem Reap and Geoff is a photographer, specialising in commercial photography Exposure Siem Reap and photo shoots at Angkor Wat.
Why we created Satu?
The 2020 pandemic had devastating effects on the local community, especially small businesses in Siem Reap. It also showed us the fragility of our planet and made us think about how we can live more sustainably whilst creating a better world for our kids. Satu was created as a platform to bring locally sourced, ethically minded brands to a wider market and promote the small brands we love.
Our Mission
Over the last five years we've discovered some incredible small local businesses in Cambodia. It's often very hard for these businesses to gain exposure beyond the tourist market and we wanted to create an online store to support them. Our products can be delivered to anywhere in Cambodia and we are also seeking likeminded stockists overseas to gain exposure for these amazing brands.
The Satu Collection
Satu is a curated collection of mostly Cambodian-based small businesses. All of the brands we work with must be ethically sustainable and many have an eco or green focus. We only work with brands who are doing good for Cambodia.
What does Satu mean?
It's a combination of two Cambodian words: 'psaa' meaning market and 'tuich' meaning small. We are an online marketplace for small brands - Satu. When we discovered it also means fairytale in Finland where Evi-Elli's grandmother came from, we knew we had a name!
